The Role of the Nervous System in Your Health
The real question here is what role doesn’t your nervous system play in your health???? That would most definitely be a much quicker topic to discuss! The nervous system controls and coordinates EVERY single function and system in your body and is often referred to as your body’s “control center”.
Function of the Nervous SystemThe nervous system is composed of the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The central system is known to be the primary command center for the body, spanning from the brain to the spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system consists of a network of nerves that connects the rest of the body to the CNS.
The nervous system controls all of the functions in the body and it is so important that it is completely protected by the bones in your back and neck. Sometimes our bones can move and put pressure on our nerves and cause problems and symptoms within the body. This is what we call nerve interference.
Systems in the BodyThere are 11 systems that make up, what we know as, the operating and functioning human being.
None of these systems would ever be able to function if it wasn’t for your nervous system.
How Stress Effects the Nervous SystemThe state of the nervous system determines whether the body is in defensive/survival mode or whether it is in rest/repair mode. When the body is in a sympathetic state, commonly referred to as fight or flight, our body is triggered into a defensive/survival mode. In this state, our normal body functions are compromised in many ways that have negative impacts on our health if sustained for a long period of time.
On the other hand, when the nervous system is in a parasympathetic state, the body is able to function normally as well as to repair and regenerate. A healthy nervous system has an optimal balance of activation of the parasympathetic nervous system and activation of the sympathetic nervous system.
How Chiropractic Adjustments Have Been Proven to Reduce StressProlonged stress within the body can impact your body negatively over time. Chiropractic adjustments can help to remove nerve interference therein reducing the amount of stress within the body. The following are some of the areas where function is greatly improved by a healthy nervous system:
- Ear/Sinus Infections
- Cramps/Menstrual Problems
- Behavior Issues
- High Blood Pressure
Chiropractic care has been proven to help your nervous system function by bringing the body back into balance by aligning the spine and relieving pain. While visiting a chiropractor cannot remove the stress in your life, it can greatly help to reduce stress symptoms.
